| Wirelettuce is a late blooming annual wildflower of the sunflower family. Commonly seen growing in dry, open disturbed places and along freeways in Western North America. Starting out as a low growing rosette of linear fleshy leaves, flower stems elongate up to 6 feet in height. The stems appear leafless from a distance with flower heads at intervals on the branches. Individual flowers are dark pink to white and provide pollen and nectar late in the season when many of the other flowering plants have gone to seed. Good for an open airy addition to a sunny bank or at the back of a wild border. |
