Low mounding buckwheat from the Channel Islands with pink to rose flower heads on masses of green or grey-green oval leaves. Flowers provide seasonal interest by fading to a rusty red. As with its cousins, the other buckwheats, it is a great nectar source for butterflies, flower flies and native bees. Seeds provide good forage for native song birds. Red buckwheat is easy to grow and tolerates clay. It is versatile and mixes well with many other coastal natives but also does well inland.
